Cheetahs

 By Elyse Powell

Cheetahs are a member of the cat family and live in south and east Africa. They are an endangered species. Cheetahs are the smallest big cat (mammal and so are warm blooded) and are carnivores. They have yellow fur and black spots and a striped tail for camouflage with black tear stripes from their eyes to their mouths. Cheetahs are the fastest land animal and are specially adapted to live in harsh climates. Their young are called cubs and have lots of fluffy fur. Female cheetahs are solitary animals and only live with their cubs until they are 18 months old but males live in small groups. They clean each other with their tongues and mothers ands cubs also bond this way. They have excellent eyesight both at night and during the day and  have excellent hearing. They open their mouths and pant when they are hot. Cheetahs faces are covered in sensitive whiskers and blink when they are touched helping cheetahs feel their way.
